The importance of building a social network has value to Brandon Robenson. He applies the theory of building social capital every day as a first-year student at Mary Washington University. A native of Chesterfield, Virginia, Robenson hopes to become involved in campus activities and share his talents. First and foremost, however, Brandon is focusing on what has gotten him this far– academics.

A pioneer at best, Robenson has always crossed generational age lines and racial barriers, has become the epitome of what it means to be a student–athlete. Robenson plans to pursue basketball, but will stay grounded in academics by pursuing his accounting and computer science degree.

Like many college students, Robenson’s interests vary. He will continue to explore financial assistance and stability and technological advances–hoping to become more efficient in today’s society.

Robenson is currently at the helm of a popular Facebook group called “The Power of Networking,” a group started to help people bridge the business gaps between themselves and others around the world.

Already thinking about his future plans to attain his MBA after graduation from MWU, Robenson is actively moving to network and join organizations that reflect his interests. He wishes to become involved in networking where he can affect positive change in the community and at the university.

Robenson’s father has had a great influence on his success. He also credits his mother for providing the support and parenting he needed to become successful and make the best choices in life.

One of Brandon’s main goals is to relay a vital point that pushes people to think. “I want to grow and prove that everyone can become wealthy if they choose and they don’t have to take advantage of other people,” Robenson said.

Success is at the foundation of Brandon Robenson’s character. “Black men today are looked down upon,” said Robenson. But Brandon is looking up and he’s pulling his peers and fellow brothers up along the way. He’s doing it by using his tools to share the most basic knowledge and wisdom.
